Freeport's Krape Park offers year-round recreational activities. The area encompasses a mini-golf course, an 18-hole disc golf course, several tennis courts, a baseball diamond and a nature trail. There is also an old-fashioned carousel ready to give rides to children and paddle boats available to rent. In the winter, visitors can enjoy a skating rink and the trails open for cross-country skiing and sledding. Many activities are seasonal and visitors are asked to double check the availability of the activities.
Miles of trails wind through the Oakdale Nature Preserve, leading to picnic areas, a dining hall, shelters and interpretive centers. This 133-acre (54-ha) park is set amidst an oak and hickory forest and it allows for hiking and cross country skiing inside it.
Home to the Read Park Family Aquatic Center and the Freeport SK 8 Park, Read Park is a recreational destination to many residents and visitors in the city. Also found on the grounds are baseball fields, tennis courts, picnic areas and playgrounds. A concession stand and trails are provided. People are welcome to use the park from dawn until 10:30pm each night.
